Travel Case
A compact travel case for a premium multishaver system.
What is it?
Part of a new premium-tier multishaver system with twelve grooming attachments. My focus was the concepting, development and modelling of the travel case, the piece that carries the shaver body and a few key attachments on the road.
Designing for the trip
We focused on one persona: the young professional in consulting-style work, away for two to three days, who needs only the basics to stay tidy for any occasion. Every decision was weighed against that short, high-stakes trip.
Initial constraints
Every form and material decision lived between these poles.
- Compact footprint Premium, elevated experience
- Premium material feel Recyclable & non-toxic
- Only the essentials Ready for any occasion
Two archetypes
Eggshell
Chosen directionA vertical slit opening that lets the case stand on its own and double as a display. A middle flap divides the two half and protects all the attachments
Donut
A "premium tool" presentation, the shaver and attachments cradled in a protective shell, inspired by the foam-lined cases of professional equipment.
From sketch to manufacture
Six months of rapid iteration: hundreds of sketches narrowed to two archetypes, then tested with real users before one went to tooling.
- 01
Sketch
Hundreds of sketches, rapid form-and-function iteration into two archetypes.
- 02
Prototype
Around five to six 3D-printed prototypes per direction, each semi-refined.
- 03
Test
A 30-person user panel voiced their preferences and needs helping us select the best design direction
- 04
Production
Form and size polished, files sent to manufacturers; the first samples arrived as the internship closed.
Premium that recycles
We wanted a premium feel without premium guilt. The case settled on a fine felt with a waterproof coating, warm and tactile in the hand, yet recyclable and non-toxic.
Outcome
Shipped to tooling
The chosen donut was polished for form and size and sent to manufacturers for a first, lower-grade sample.
First samples in hand
My internship closed as the first physical samples arrived, the full loop from sketch to real object completed.
What I would do next
With more time: deeper validation of the coated felt and of carrying capacity across a wider set of travel personas.
Surface design withheld at the client’s request.
